Programme Note
I wrote Paráfrasis as an insight into the trombone part of the first scene of my opera El Palacio Imaginado (2003), in which the trombone represents the alter ego of The Benefactor, a dictator of a Latin American country. A further development of the material in the opera, enable me to create a challenging trombone piece without loosing sight of the character from which it sprung. However the trombone piece that came from this scene, enhances the inner world of a delirious character. This gave me a lot of musical possibilities to develop in the trombone and thus Paráfrasis was created.
