As I undertook the creation of this new score, I realized it has been ten years since I wrote my last work for them, when the ensemble turned forty.
To write a string quartet for the Arditti’s has always been the most challenging projects for me, as I am aware of the capabilities and extraordinary musicianship of the ensemble and of each one of them.
Every time I write for them, I set my standards very high and every piece has always been a journey of discoveries of possibilities. So I am grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to continue growing as a composer.
In the ten years that have lapse between writing Bitácora capilar (2013) and Diálogos apócrifos I have enriched my instrumental palette and I like to think that this new quartet has benefited from my compositional experiences of the years that preceded it.
To know the Arditti Quartet has always been inspiring as it gives me a poetic and musical dramaturgy to structure and give direction to the music.
The structure of this new work consists of a series of different duets between the players which creates a musical relationship between the players that prompt the material for the tutti sections that intersperse with the different combination of duets.
I am honored to be able to be part of the fiftieth anniversary of such an important ensemble of our time.
